The Spirit of Jazz is set to take over
Douglas Park on Saturday, June 5.
For the sixth consecutive summer the Langley
City park will be the site of a live jazz festival,
featuring some of the hottest acts the Lower Mainland has to offer, and a
400-square-foot hardwood sprung dance floor for audiences to strut their stuff.
Five bands will take the stage at the
Langley Spirit Square between noon and 8 p.m., beginning with the Tin Pan Band,
a Dixieland ensemble featuring Langley musician Scott Robertson.
They’ll be followed by the Creole Jazz Band,
Inline 6 and The Other Big Band in hour-long sets, with Alexander Browne and
the Aristocrats of Swing wrapping things up between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Without Envision as a major sponsor this
year (which allowed them to host three stages and feature 24 acts last year)
organizers have scaled back the jazz festival considerably for 2010.
“Next year, we’ll be back with a bigger
event,” said Omer Mahmood.
“But it’s still a free event for the
community,” he added.
